With Georgia’s early arrival, she has rightly been tracking more with her due-date-age than her actual age. So we started solids nice and slow around six to six-and-a-half months. She really was not very interested at first – at all. She still is just now becoming a good eater, though she still has really “unhungry” days. You would never know this by checking out her super-chunk thighs or squishy, dough-like belly, but I had started to think she would still be really content just having her little bottles and moving on.
But now we’ve progressed to three meals a day and suddenly she is really into her food! I have also been trying to make a lot of her food. I tried to do this some with Wesley, but I could never really get it going. A friend of mine made her first son’s food and is now making her second’s and used the book Super Baby Food as her guide. So I read up on that and started feeling like I could actually do this.
It’s a little time consuming and a fair amount of work. And I spend more time shopping because I’ll go to more than one store if I have to so I can find quality organic produce. The author really has me freaked out about organic…as if I needed any more to freak out about when it comes to my kids. ;-)
But it is so rewarding, and I have such a huge sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when I get batches made and in the freezer. Right now, Georgia has a buffet to choose from that includes: apples, sweet potatoes, broccoli, peas, butternut squash, carrots, avocado, hmmm, that may be it for now. I have asparagus and pears to do, and I always keep bananas and blueberries on hand for her. She has even unknowingly eaten tofu smashed up in veggies a few times. I love it!
And bonus is that I’m trying to get Wesley to branch back out since he used to eat all of these fruits and veggies when he was younger. Now he just eats broccoli and carrots every day and is very resistant to eating others. At least he eats tons of fruit! I keep telling him that if Georgia is eating so many different veggies, he should too, so he can set a good example. He has tried a few things so far so we’ll see!
